As a proud American, I would be thrilled to visit a place that honors our veterans and former presidents, celebrates the unique artistic talents of our youth, and seeks to educate our great nation about its heritage. Where can such a place be found? Thanks to the incredibly generous financial support provided by great Americans like Dick DeVos and his wife, Betsy DeVos, current United States Secretary of Education, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. will undergo a tremendous expansion in the very near future to accomplish all of these goals and more. I cannot wait to visit our nation’s capitol for the very first time once the expansion is complete. I am confident the Kennedy Center will open my eyes to the rich history and culture of the greatest nation on Earth.

Rarely do you find a dedicated American like Dick DeVos: former President of the multi-billion dollar Amway corporation, past CEO of the NBA’s Orlando Magic, founder of the Education Freedom Fund which provides scholarships to children in Michigan, and 2006 Republican candidate for Governor of Michigan. Don’t forget DeVos’ passion for Grand Rapids’ medical community for which he has led efforts to improve health care centers, a heart hospital, and a medical school. Did I forget to mention that DeVos published a New York Times best-selling book in 1997? (“Rediscovering American Values“)

DeVos’ devotion to the success of America’s youth is undeniable. In 2016, as honorary program chair of the Boy Scouts Of America’s “Build Character Today, Lead Tomorrow” campaign. DeVos helped the Boy Scouts raise over $1 million for the campaign which seeks to provide educational programs in science, math, and technology. DeVos’ own experiences in the Boy Scouts impacted his life greatly and he wants other boys, particularly in urban areas, to receive the lessons and opportunities the Boy Scouts provide.

Dick DeVos and his wife Betsy (United States Secretary of Education) have dedicated their lives and personal finances to charitable giving of all kinds. The pair formed the Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation in 1989 and have been making a real difference in the areas of medicine, education, and in the arts and culture that make America great. Married for more than three decades, the couple has truly spent their lives serving America.

Mr. DeVos is nothing short of a hero. America is lucky to have him as he champions for so many worthy causes. To use one’s own blessings to better the lives of others is admirable and certainly representative of America’s finest.
